I really love graphic, coordinating prints. Dots, stripes, geometrics. To me, these elements are often what give foundation and structure to a project with wild and delicious florals. It’s a contrast: the fluid against the straight-forward. I explore these kinds of relationships in my quilts because they really light my heart afire (I even have a lecture about The Magic of Mixing Prints!).

So when Deborah Fisher of Fish Museum and Circus asked me to participate in playing with her new line (I think she said, “testing” or “blog hop,” but who are we kidding? It’s PLAYING!), I jumped at the chance.

I started with these Fan Girl quilt blocks (below). That purple dot with the floral is really making me feel all the things.

I need more of this purple. (Also, it’s PRINCE purple, so yeah….)

This was going to be a pillow (cushion) cover, but I think I’ll keep going and make a full Fan Girl quilt based on the Night Rainbow dots. They’re organic, imperfect ovals, which opens so many coordinating possibilities!

Of course, these prints also work well with solids (what doesn’t?), and I whipped up some half-square triangles into a lap quilt for those times my cat wants to be on a quilt on my lap, but it’s too warm to have a full quilt on me. LOL — I suppose that’s my life now: designing the size of a quilt based on what my cat needs. HAHAHAHA! Hey, cat cuddles, some hand sewing, and some good binge watching light-hearted TV is my jam, y’all.

Be sure to check out all the makers on this play tour blog hop. One of the most fun things in the quilt world is to see how different people use the same fabrics. I can’t wait to see what they’ve all made!
