About a year ago I started noticing a theme emerging in my life. I was embarking on another new era. This one is about the LIBERATION OF SPIRIT.
So when I saw this pattern for Freedom in Sherri Noel’s new book Text It!, I knew immediately that was the one I had to make. I knew I had to make it fiery. After a few days, I knew it had to be RED (even though the pattern calls for a light background). I knew the sassy Bridgette print in Jennifer Paganelli’s St. John fabric would be an integral part of this quilt (and a star!). That face, that hair! She embodies the FREEDOM of this piece.

What I didn’t expect was that I’d piece the center banner. I had a solid pink fabric I had planned to use there, but in the end, it didn’t work. So, feeling the freedom, I went all out and improved the banner with leftover bits from the background. Then I added two more free-flying geese on the sides! Because why not!?
I did go ahead and sew together the hexagons, but I used some fusible tape to affix the letters to the banner because I knew I wouldn’t get to sewing them down in the next week or two. I think I’ll use some perle cotton to blanket stitch them down. What do you think?

Just do straight line, walking foot. Matchstick quilting was popular in Nashville for the MQG.
Freedom is a great word. I would stitch the triangles 1/2 inch from the edge and then outline freedom about 1/2 inch from the hexagons and use a curvy filler in the red

Freedom is no better symbolized than stars and stripes! I think it would look great quilted with stars all over, in all sizes!
I think a radial pattern would go with the theme.
I might quilt it with spirals to give a sense of motion and energy. I LOVE this quilt!
I never know how to quilt things so I head to Angela for ideas. She has so much great info. There are pictures for Flying Geese blocks on Pinterest. Then do a little echo quilting around the words.
I think lines radiating out from Freedom might be nice.
Maybe quilt arcs in the flying geese and micro stippling around the letters.
Tara, faboulos thought to stitch with the Perle cotton. It can only make this piece even more rich.

I’m not an experienced quilter so I have no idea how you would quilt it.
Your quilt is beautiful! Honestly, I suck at the quilting part so I would probably just do diagonal lines or something. I need a lot more practice!!

Love the colors of your piece. I would probably do some echoing of the triangle shape inside the flying geese and then some meandering with stars thrown in for the background.

Love this quilt and the feelings you get just by looking at it! I would do some dot to dot curves in the triangles, but the red calls for flames; you know the ones that they put on cars or bikes? More movement and freedom as your worries go up in flames! 😉
I love your red background!! I think swirls around the letters and radiating lines outward, maybe interspersed with bursts of fireworks
Perhaps free motion some red star designs in the background and meander or straight line in the triangles with a neutral thread.
Your quilt is awesome. Love everything about it. Maybe some organic wavy line quilting? Might continue the movement of the feeling of freedom. And perle cotton to sew down the hexagon letters sounds perfect.
